March 30, 2026 - RV-10 Status Update

It was time to address the Sam James plenum.

Right off the bat, it was obvious that it was going to be challenging to line up the plenum with the air inlet rings.

The prop governor linkage was going to be a major issue as well.

Another issue was the prop governor control linkage.  As you can see, the prop governor has a big spring on it.  That was never a problem with my RV-7 and it's vernier control cable which "locks" when you stop moving it.

But the RV-10 has a throttle quadrant.  No "lock".  If you pull the blue prop control lever back, it just springs back forward.  We'll have to figure out a solution for this at some point.

The plenum didn't fit well around the engine mounts.

Or the trailing edge in general.

At one point, we decided the plenum would be too much work, and we would just go with the stock baffling and rubber strips.  But even that had its issues, mainly around the air inlet ring area.  Before we had done anything, Nhu-An got word from the Sam James company that they were working on a new version of the RV-10 plenum and would give us one free of charge.  So we decided to just wait for that.

In the meantime, there was plenty to do.  We installed the exhaust pipes and heat muffs.

Fortunately, the tubes had their cylinder number on them which really helped.

The six-cylinder exhaust system is much different than the four-cylinder!
